MARUKATSU HIRA KANNA JAPANESE PLANE 50mm (FUJIWARASANGYO)

Hira-kannaliterally translates as ‘regular plane’, or ‘full sized plane’.

These planes are the ‘general purpose’kannaand are most commonly thought of as ‘kanna‘ to most wood workers.

Intended to be adaptable to whatever general planing task you have from rough work, dimensioning or final smoothing and finishing, these planes are more than capable.

This one has a 50mm wide laminated blade of blue paper steel backed with soft iron. This plane is fitted with a chipbreaker (a relatively recent innovation in Japanese planes).

All Japanese planes,arrive in New Zealand with a small amount of tuning yet to be done. This allows end users to tune their plane for use in the conditions it will be continually used in, eliminating the problem of wood movement between climates.
